HealtheMed is an integrated digital system of care that enables Medicaid-waivered clients and care teams to utilize telemedicine, medication adherence, and remote patient monitoring (RPM). With a TV application at its core, HealtheMed enables multipoint video capability and integrated Bluetooth devices, including a medication auto-dispensing unit, pulse oximeter, and thermometer, all connected to a unique platform for better data management and quicker care team responses to patients’ monitoring alerts.
Their application, Clinic@Home, is the first-of-its-kind system of care that provides Medicaid-waivered clients with access to essential care services. However, its application was built on outdated technology that could not integrate with modern EHRs, relied on manual processes, and was unable to scale to meet the demands of a growing customer base.
To continue providing high-quality remote care and expand their services, HealtheMed needed to undertake a complete system renovation. They required an engineering partner who could not only modernize their technology but also build a flexible, secure, and extensible platform for the future.
Engineering a Modern, Scalable Digital Care Platform
HealtheMed needed a partner who could execute a complex, multi-faceted engineering project on a tight timeline while adhering to the strictest healthcare compliance standards. The KMS team developed a robust, five-part solution to renovate the entire system from the ground up. Each part addressed a critical capability while aligning to shared principles for security, performance, and maintainability.
1. HealtheMed Patient App
KMS developed a new, responsive UI application for Android TV that could also be ported to mobile devices. This merged two existing applications to improve data reading response times and simplify device installation.
2. HealtheMed Portal
The team created a brand-new web portal for nurses and doctors, allowing them to configure and manage patient settings through a single sign-on experience
3. HealtheMed Backend Services
Our team implemented a modern microservices architecture to streamline all business rules and facilitate seamless integration with standard EHR systems like CharmHealth, Epic, and Cerner.
4. HealtheMed Database
KMS designed a centralized database to store all data collected from the portal, patient app, and integrated EHR systems, creating a single source of truth.
5. AWS Infrastructure
We leveraged AWS-managed services to build a cost-efficient, highly available, and automatically scalable infrastructure that is fully compliant with HIPAA and HITRUST CSF standards.

Across all five parts, security and compliance were treated as first-class requirements. Continuous integration and delivery pipelines promote changes through quality gates with automated checks for coding standards, test coverage, dependency vulnerabilities, and policy compliance. Release plans include staged rollouts, feature flags, and clear rollback paths.
Training and knowledge transfer were provided to HealtheMed’s teams so they can operate the platform confidently, extend it safely, and continue improving patient and clinician experiences over time.
