Heading Towards a Mobile-First Revolution in Banking

As an established bank with a 32-year history, ACB recognized that its traditional, branch-based model was being threatened by new, mobile-based entrants. Fintech startups and neo-banks were capturing the attention of tech-savvy customers who demanded the convenience of on-the-go banking. ACB knew they had to make a decisive move toward a mobile-first future.

At the time, ACB only had an app for individual customers: ACB-mBanking. To better serve their business clients, the bank recognized the need to build a dedicated application tailored to their unique needs. This led to the creation of the ACB Business App, ACB’s first and only mobile app designed specifically for business customers.

The ACB Business App consolidates all the banking services that business users need into a single platform, resulting in a technically complex architecture. Most importantly, it handles sensitive customer data, which requires rigorous penetration testing and also close compliance with security standards, such as OWASP guidelines and PCI DSS security standards.

To turn their ambition of building an ecosystem of personalized mobile applications into reality, ACB needed a trusted technology partner with deep expertise in both user-centric application engineering and the banking domain.

Rapid, Customer-Centric Development

KMS Technology was selected after a rigorous RFP process, convincing ACB with our proven proficiency in building complex, secure financial applications. We provided ACB with digital banking advisory services and a high-seniority Agile team to build the ACB Business App.

 

Before going into the projects, ACB defined three requisites to be met: Customer Centricity, Data Security, and Time-to-Market.

1. Customer Centricity

To ensure users have a smooth, uninterrupted experience using the app, KMS Technology built an Activity Log with asynchronous processing. The benefit is that users won’t have to wait every time the app deals with long-running tasks.

However, innovative functions and a user-friendly interface optimized for various screen sizes are not enough. Deep domain expertise is another factor to take into account.

With our experience in the banking domain, KMS Technology ensured that the application architecture is user-centric from both technical and business perspectives.

2. Data Security

Banks are favorite targets for fraud and crime. An incident of data leak can leave a permanent scar on ACB’s profitability and reputation.

To help ACB ensure data security, KMS Technology applied leading security practices such as RSA encryption, token-based authentication, and one-time passwords (OTP). Also, ACB Safekey (a user authentication solution by ACB) was integrated.

3. Time-to-Market

To increase the speed of implementation while ensuring efficiency, the team followed these three engineering principles:

  • Agile/Sprint: A two-week cadence produced viable builds, enabling iterative delivery, continuous feedback, and smooth UAT.
  • Professional Scrum Master: A dedicated Scrum Master ensured disciplined, proper use of Scrum, boosting predictability and overall project success.
  • Automation Testing: Comprehensive automation significantly increased API test coverage.

After only 04 months of working together, the team released the first version of the app to the production environment.
