About KMS Technology

Established in 2009, KMS Technology is a U.S.-based engineering and software services company with development centers in Vietnam. Over 11 years of operation, KMS Technology has been trusted by international clients for the superior quality of products and expertise of Vietnamese engineers.

KMS builds and successfully launches its own software companies through its internal startup incubator, KMS Labs. Most notable companies include QASymphony, Kobiton, Katalon, and Grove. Under the brand, KMS Solutions, the company serves the Asia Pacific region, offering technology solution consulting and bringing the most advanced and latest technologies to the Asian market.

KMS is committed to making a long-lasting social impact by partnering with non-profit organizations that give disadvantaged students fair and better employment opportunities. The company regularly cooperates with universities, participates in IT training activities and specialized events, and sponsors scholarship programs in Vietnam. The company has received many prestigious industry awards and has been named one of the greatest places to work in Vietnam, Asia, and the U.S. for many years in a row.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EMPOWERS UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS

If Mai Thuong – a disadvantaged student from Quang Tri province, Vietnam – hadn’t chosen to study IT, she would have encountered many difficulties finding a  job in her hometown due to her weak physical condition.

In May, Mai Thuong and two other students from Central Vietnam successfully secured a 4-month internship with a program organized by Katalon Studio (a product incubated by KMS Technology) in partnership with the Non-governmental Organization Passerelles numériques Vietnam (PNV). The sponsorship covered all the expenses, including round trip flights from Danang to Ho Chi Minh city, living expenses, and training for their four months living in Ho Chi Minh city.

Hardships don’t hinder passion

Born in a poor village of Quang Tri province with congenital leg defects, Le Thi Mai Thuong (22 years old) suffered many limitations compared to her friends. Due to her family’s financial difficulties, her mother has to work hard to raise Thuong and her sister. Her family’s income is quite unstable, relying mainly on a 1500 square meter paddy field.

The first time Thuong learned about computers in secondary school, she was excited and became interested in it immediately. The more she learned, the more she wanted to explore. Her passion was so strong that she hoped to become a qualified IT engineer in the future. However, this felt like just a dream because Thuong never thought she would be able to receive proper training from a professional institute to become an IT engineer.

Luckily, the door to a brighter future opened up to Thuong when she was granted a scholarship by Passerelles numériques Vietnam (PNV), which covered all her living and education expenses for three years.

“I was so happy when I got the news. From now on, my future will be more secure. I can get a proper education without bothering my mom with the tuition,” Mai Thuong shared.

Mai Thuong was glad to join the 4-month internship at Katalon.

To secure the internship at Katalon, Mai Thuong and other interns put a lot of effort into the application process. She passed many rounds of interviews with Katalon’s teams, which evaluated both her technical and soft skills. Katalon maintains its high recruitment standards to ensure that they select qualified talent and provide them with the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a corporate environment.

Taking part in developing international standard software

Mai Thuong joined Katalon as an intern for the software testing team for Katalon Studio. In the first month, she learned about the product, its system, and its protocols. After her training, she worked directly with developers and other related teams.

With her positive performance, Mai Thuong was entrusted with major tasks and played vital roles in the project’s development.

“Before joining Katalon, I thought I would only be assigned minor tasks, mainly to get myself accustomed to the job. But when I worked here, I was treated as an official employee who was responsible for actual tasks, which was beyond my expectations,” Mai Thuong shared about her work experience at Katalon.

The more involved she was, the more she realized what she was lacking when she was at college. Thanks to the internship at Katalon and the dedicated support of her colleagues, she got the chance to improve her soft skills beyond technical knowledge. For example, she was often encouraged by her mentor to present in front of her teammates about her work.

“At the beginning, I was afraid that I would be discriminated against due to my lack of expertise. But gradually, with positive feedback received from my team, I surpassed my insecurities and became more confident.”

Mai Thuong’s days at Katalon brought her not only knowledge about the IT industry but also unforgettable memories with her coworkers. Ever since the very first day, she was warmly welcomed by her colleagues. Her mentor took great care of her personal life such as teaching her how to commute using the bus and regularly checking on her new life in Ho Chi Minh City, knowing that this was her first time setting foot in such a big city.

Mai Thuong always gets support from her colleagues.

“My internship at Katalon is such a remarkable milestone in my life. I had a chance to learn many new things and improve myself significantly. As the end of my internship is approaching, if destiny allows, I would be very delighted to continue my journey here; otherwise, I am already blessed for the opportunity of having met and worked with my colleagues at Katalon,” Mai Thuong shared.

It would be incomplete not to mention the benefit Thuong had when working in such a multicultural environment. She got to know many cultures which helped her look at things with a more well-rounded and diverse perspective. Additionally, it was also a great opportunity for her to meet, work, and interact with excellent students from prestigious domestic and foreign universities.

“We believe that giving back to society means more than just providing financial support. It also means creating sustainable changes that give these students the chance to walk on their own feet in the future. I believe that the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their internship at Katalon will be a valuable “fishing rod” for them to gain future success,” said Mr. Tran Kien Uy – Managing Director of Katalon.

Katalon – A Software Testing Ecosystem Developed by Vietnamese Engineers

Katalon – a software testing solution developed by Vietnamese engineers – is widely used by more than 65,000 companies in 160 countries.

Katalon is an all-in-one solution for Web, Mobile, API, and Desktop app testing for teams at any level, without any prerequisite knowledge. The tool was developed by a team of 30 Vietnamese engineers from KMS Technology and is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Katalon was developed as an automation tool for small and medium teams. Katalon is positioned to be the world-leading software automation testing tool according to Uy Tran – Managing Director of Katalon. Over five years of operation and development, Katalon has progressed to become an enriched testing ecosystem for enterprise-sized teams with more advanced needs.

Starting as a community product

Initially, Katalon was an automation testing tool developed by a team at KMS Technology to speed up internal testing processes, reduce costs, and simplify and standardize the internal test automation process. Vu Lam, CEO of KMS Technology shared that at the same time, there were individuals and small businesses in the market with similar demands and problems with cost and complexity. Therefore, KMS Technolgy decided to deploy Katalon as an independent and public product on the market. In the early stages, there were only 200 users, including internal teams. The Katalon team aimed to enter the global market in 3 years and became one of the top 5 technology projects with the highest users in the world. “In the beginning, we merely thought about developing a tool for the testing community,” said Tran.

Impressive growth to 16,000 new users

The first year was challenging. Besides focusing on developing the product, the team also had difficulty marketing the product. By investing in human resources specialized in marketing, Katalon started to grow and reached 1,500 users. However, the growth rate stagnated, which led to a change in the marketing strategy. The tool was then integrated with more features to generate significant user growth. “After the upgrade, the number of users rose impressively to 16,000 new users monthly. From there, Katalon became a highlighted point in the testing community”, said Katalon Managing Director.

Uy Tran – Managing Director of Katalon

After such outstanding development, Katalon was divided into two versions: free and enterprise. This adjustment received mixed feedback from current users, who were used to the free version. The team then decided to split the Enterprise Version into two smaller packages. Instead of charging the whole package, it was broken down into monthly and yearly subscriptions and offered 6-month free trial to users of the old version. “Over six months applying the new strategy, the project’s revenue exceeded our expectation and has been continuously trusted by users worldwide”, shared Uy Tran. In particular, in March 2020, Katalon was ranked the best Software Test Automation tool on the market by Gartner Peer Insights. According to a KMS Technology representative, the company is facing a recruitment challenge, especially people with excellent communication and cross-cultural understanding skills to deal with a large number of international clients. In 2020, the company targets to hire 50 personnel for sales and customer service positions. “With a diverse, highly-efficient working environment and good benefits, Katalon is a good opportunity for young people to learn, develop and help affirm the position of Vietnamese software in the world,” said Tran.

KMS Technology continues to maintain its ISO 27001 certification

KMS Technology, a leading provider of software development, testing, and consulting services, has passed the globally recognized International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001:2013 Re-Certificate Audit from TÜV NORD for information security management. The certification is effective until May 19, 2023.

This certificate recognizes that 2 of KMS Technology’s offices in Ho Chi Minh City, including Cong Hoa and Tan Vien, have completed a series of IT-related security management system controls that allow us to identify risks and put controls in place to manage or reduce those risks.

Implementing and maintaining this Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification helps KMS Technology to protect its business operations as well as customer’s IP by securely handling sensitive information, data, transactions, and services.

“This certification once again reconfirmed KMS Technology’s leading position as a software development service provider in Vietnam. Reaching the highest level of standard for security information management across the global information technology industry, KMS Technology is committed to confidentiality, integrity, availability and security of information at all times for our clients,” said Chung Tran, Vice President of Corporate Operations at KMS Technology.

KMS Sponsors Newborns Vietnam with an Online Tool for Neonatal Doctors Training in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City, 20 March 2020 – KMS Solutions announced their sponsorship for Newborns Vietnam – a UK registered charity dedicated to reducing neonatal mortality in South East Asia, with a specific focus on Vietnam. Under this sponsorship, KMS Solutions offered to develop an E-portfolio – an online learning tool that facilitates and records the assessments of doctors’ training throughout their career, with the focus on that of the diagnosis and care of preterm and sick newborns.

The KMS team stands in front of a banner reading "KMS Solutions sponsors technology and application development for newborns Vietnam."

According to UNICEF, 70% of all infants’ deaths are newborns in their first twenty-eight days of life. In Vietnam, the healthcare system and standards of care for preterm and sick babies trail those of more developed countries. Only 10% of Vietnamese medical practitioners are certified to provide proper care to newborn infants.

Tien Nguyen, Newborns Vietnam Trustee said: “to address the deficit of specialist training, Newborns Vietnam brings UK experts to train and work alongside Vietnamese doctors and support our country adopting international training systems for our hospitals”.

Newborns Vietnam (NBV)’s neonatal training program aims to equip post-graduate doctors with specialist knowledge of neonatal care. Its curriculum consists of units of competencies, each one has a learning outcome that a doctor under the training is required to earn (thus the term competency-based training). Due to this nature of the training, NBV needs an E-portfolio that captures the doctors’ progress in reaching the required levels of competencies.

Thus, E-portfolio is created to serve as an electronic logbook that documents, stores, and manages doctors’ achievements and practicing licenses that they have earned thus far, ensuring that the doctors remain qualified to practice medicine, with specific regard to neonatology.

Once launched, the E-portfolio will also support the Ministry of Health with the review of postgraduate medical education and the introduction of competency-based specialist neonatal training. It also holds promise to reinforce the impacts of the local healthcare system on the well-being of newborn infants in Vietnam.

NBV is currently working with the Ministry of Health to develop pediatric specialty training and neonatal subspecialty as a national program, which under the new regulation, all doctors working with children are required to complete. It is estimated that 15-20% of graduates will study general pediatrics, amounting to 1,600 per year who will do an element of neonatology. Therefore, the E-portfolio will play an important role in the development of pediatricians and neonatologists.

Dr. Andrew Lyon – online in Edinburgh checking in with the KMS Solutions team in HCMC.

According to Mr. Le Tran Bao Duy, General Director of KMS Solutions “We admire Newborns Vietnam’s work and their capacity to give. In six years, more than two hundred UK neonatal doctors and nurses have donated their time to teach our doctors. We hope our support will give universities, hospitals, and young doctors an education platform that will advance the medical training in our country and move us closer to world-class care for every baby.”

This project is part of KMS Solutions’ commitment to making a long-lasting social impact on the community through social projects and technology-related activities.

KMS is part of Pledge 1% – an impressive network of entrepreneurs and companies across the globe that have committed to incorporating philanthropic efforts into their business. They pledge to give 1% of the product, 1% of equity, 1% of profit, and 1% of employee time to improve communities around the world.
