KMS Gives Back at Open Hand Atlanta

On Tuesday, February 25 the KMS team traded our laptops and coffee cups for hairnets and food scales to volunteer with Open Hand Atlanta

About Open Hand

Open Hand provides meals to homebound seniors, people with disabilities, those living with chronic illnesses, and at-risk families.

The organization was founded in 1988 to provide meals to individuals suffering from AIDs who were no longer able to cook for themselves. Over the last 30+ years, the Atlanta-based organization has grown into one of the largest community-based meal providers in the county, serving over 5,000 meals each day.

Our Impact

With hairnets (and beard-nets) secured in place, the KMS team got to work…after a team selfie of course.

In a group selfie, members of the KMS team are seen smiling and wearing mesh hairnets. Those with beards also have nets that cover the lower half of their face.

Open Hand works with certified nutritionists to ensure each meal supports individual clients’ health. Some of us were in the cooler packing shipments, while others were on the packing floor sorting meals for delivery and a few were on the assembly line portioning out servings for the meal kits.

By the end of the day, our team had helped to pack 1,347 meals.

KMS Gives and Pledge 1%

The Pledge 1% logo. Grey word pledge above a large yellow 1%. Volunteering with Open Hand is one way the KMS team is working towards meeting our goal of donating 1% of employee time to charity

But our goal encompasses more than just donating our time. In 2015, KMS joined Pledge 1% and committed to donating 1% of time, profit, equity, and product to charitable organizations in our community.

Open Hand was our first project of 2020, but there will be many more to come!

Read more about KMS’s commitment to corporate citizenship or how KMS President, Josh Lieberman champions giving back at KMS.

The KMS gives logo. The words KMS Gives are in white and the “v” in gives forms a heart. The logo sits on a blue background.
